[Spring 2018] I was welcomed into the Somali home of Abdi-Noor Mohamed in Växjö and there together he and his family created sounds with things they had in their living room. Fadumo, Abdi’s wife, started to beat a rhythm on her sewing machine lid which she used as a drum. Out of the blue, she started to sing some traditional songs from Somalia. All these sound sketches were captured as digital recordings. I took some photographs during the session which I gave to the artist Annika Grünwaldt Svensson who created the digital collage which is the image on this page called Symaskinstrumman (the sewing machine drum).
