[Spring 2017] Since I had made the sketches Eftervärlden Eftervärden and Vilan som modern I began to think about a musical arrangement of these song sketches. The instruments in this sketch (called Vykort which means 'postcard') are penny whistle, voice and string quartet. At about this time I also started sketching ideas in this piece about the ‘whistle call’ from Syria (which I refer to in the sketch called 'Vatten, Källor, Ljud, Musik'). In addition I incorporated the tragic story of Alan Kurdi which emerged in connection to the sea and world crises. The sketch became a short piece in five movements. The fifth movement is called Begynnelse and it uses drum rhythms from Ghana. Africa is often regarded as where the human story began. The image for the arrangement is a photo of my mother and me that was taken by my father in 1969 at Hunmanby gap on the Yorkshire East coast of the British Isles. Like the view from Sandby borg we are facing east to the wide open sea.
