[Autumn 2016] In the previous sketch I mentioned Yorkshire moorland belonging to my own personal heritage. I visited Hade Edge Band on the moors in Yorkshire. Where are the edges and what is 'edgy'? The Hade Edge band room is literally on the moors and it feels like the edge of oblivion sometimes. I have contact with the band as my brother – Jonathan Beatty – is the conductor of this community band. At one of their rehearsals, I asked every player to choose a favourite note to play as though they were playing a tube from The Singing Ringing Tree. During a period of 90 seconds, they created a musical improvisation together to reflect the moorland. This I recorded as an audio file.
